Amy writes...
First of all, credit for the design and coding of this web site goes to Eric. Apart from my scanning in the wedding pictures and providing some suggestions for layout and organization, this is entirely his creation.
We have had a very busy year or so. After dating for about four years, Eric proposed to me in Montreal in July of 1998. He said that he thought it was a good idea, considering that wedding plans were already underway at that point. He had also said that he would propose to me once he got a full-time job and, true to his word, he planned the trip for the weekend before he started at the Office of Advocacy, United States Small Business Administration. He told me about the trip, but the destination was a secret. I didn't guess where we were going until we were driving through upstate New York with no possible destination left but Canada. The drive took about nine hours, we checked into our hotel (a beautiful, old-fashioned building with a view of the St. Lawrence River), and he proposed to me after dinner in a cobblestoned, gaslit square. ::Sigh::
The wedding plans were hectic, with me bouncing back and forth between here and Nebraska several times, especially in the course of the final months. Many of our out-of-town guests experienced their first tornado warning (fortunately not their first tornado) the day of the rehearsal dinner. On our wedding day, the sky threatened rain, but never came through on its promise. The wedding is described in greater detail in our wedding pages, so I won't go into it here.
We spent our honeymoon skiing in Winter Park, Colorado. Between the two weeks of marathon final preparations for the wedding, the wedding itself, and an oncoming bout of bronchitis, I was exhausted, and poor Eric spent his first day or so of married life with his new wife asleep on his shoulder in various airports and shuttle buses.
Since our flight home was delayed, we returned from our honeymoon at 2:30 in the morning on April 19 and, at 8:30 that same morning, I showed up for my first day as a German translator at Greenblum & Bernstein, P.L.C. I enjoy my job; I have been learning a great deal and I always feel challenged.
One of my side interests is Gothic architecture and, if I can manage it, I spend two Saturdays a month as a volunteer tour guide at Washington National Cathedral. The Cathedral is a very special place and I love sharing it with our many visitors. A few months ago, I was honored to give a tour to Karin Stoiber, the first lady of Bavaria, and her entourage.
Eric is enjoying his job fighting for the little guy at the Small Business Administration. As Assistant Chief Counsel for Telecommunications, he represents the interests of small communications companies and Internet service providers. In March, he attended the ICANN meeting in Cairo to try to secure the place of small business on the Internet. He brought back some presents for me and a pictures for the rest of you. You can see them on our Egypt page.
Our other news is, of course, that we have bought a new house. We close on March 16 and there are a few repairs we want to make before we move in. You can learn more about this at our House Page. Our new address is:
